On May 20th we visited LSG Sky Chefs located
near Incheon Airport. Mr. Gareth Lycett, CEO of LSG Sky Chefs Korea, welcomed
us at the conference room and gave us a speech about LSG Sky Chefs in Korea.
LSG took its name from ‘Lufthansa Service Group’ and its headquarter is located
in Neu-Isenburg (near Frankfurt), Germany. They are offering in-flight meals
and beverage, in-flight entertainment system including newspaper, and even
equipment which is used in aircraft to lots of their customers.
Mr. Lycett is from England and working
in German company in Korea. He has worked in Russia, Eastern Europe and Central
Asia before coming to Korea. He told us his experience working abroad was
really valuable to him and he is enjoying the life in Korea. However the most
difficult cultural thing in Korean company is hierarchy between workers.
According to him, he always tries to make their employees feel free to
communicate with him or to visit his room for conversation to share idea. But
almost all of Korean worker feels embarrassed.
After his speech, two employees in LSG
divided students into two groups and led for tour inside of in-flight meal
manufacturing facilities. Explanation from them was really so clear and
interesting that we really wanted to know about LSG. One of the most
interesting things was the section for halal food for Muslim people. However,
that place was religious, so we could not get inside and have a look.
